Relief starts with
understanding why.
The GTA’s dedicated dry eye clinic since 2006. We don’t just treat symptoms — we diagnose the root cause and build a treatment plan that lasts. If you’ve tried every drop on the shelf and your eyes still burn — you’re not imagining it, and you’re in the right place.

Dry eye is rarely just one thing. We find all of them.
New to dry eye? Start with what dry eye disease is, or understand your dry eye symptoms — what they mean, and when they signal you need more than drops.
Blocked oil glands driving evaporative dry eye — the most common form. Treatable with expression, IPL, and UltraView DEL™.
02A painless lid lump from a blocked Meibomian gland. Managed with maintenance, medical therapy, or focal IPL — surgical excision only when needed.
03Lid margin inflammation, biofilm, and mite infestation affecting tear quality. Treated with ZoHx, targeted hygiene, and prescription therapy.
04Insufficient tear production from lacrimal gland dysfunction. Diagnosed with osmolarity testing and Schirmer’s strips.
05Seasonal allergies and preservative- or medication-related toxicity that overlap with and aggravate dry eye disease.
06Pre-operative ocular surface optimization and post-operative management. Co-managed with Uptown Eye Specialists.
07Chronic topical glaucoma therapy carries a preservative burden that drives ocular surface disease. Co-managed with Uptown Eye.
08Surface instability from long-term contact lens wear and the incomplete-blink pattern of prolonged screen use. Both drive evaporative dry eye — managed in coordination with U Optical.
Four steps from diagnosis to relief.
TearLab osmolarity, LipiView meibography, Schirmer testing, and slit lamp examination.
We identify exactly which type of dry eye you have before recommending any treatment.
IPL, ZoHx, hemoderivatives, prescription drops, scleral lenses, or combination — tailored to you.
Regular follow-up imaging to confirm gland function is improving, not just symptom masking.

Dry eye care at UDEI isn’t a severity ladder — it’s a team. Dry Eye Care Consultants and optometrists share every patient from day one, working side by side on diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. When a case gets complex, recalcitrant, or surgical, our cornea specialists step in as consultants to support the plan — not to take it over.
Every patient. Every visit.
Dry Eye Care Consultants (DCCs)
UDEI-trained technicians who run the full diagnostic workup — tear osmolarity, meibography, Schirmer testing — and deliver in-clinic treatments like warm compress therapy, manual gland expression, and lid hygiene procedures. DCCs coach patients through home care and follow every case closely alongside the ODs.
Optometrists (ODs)
Dry-eye-focused optometrists from U Optical who diagnose, prescribe, and direct each patient’s treatment plan. They order advanced therapies — IPL (UltraView DEL™), hemoderivative serum tears, scleral lenses, anti-inflammatory protocols — and work hand-in-hand with the DCCs at every visit.
Cornea consultants — on call, not in charge.
Cornea Specialists (MDs)
Fellowship-trained cornea ophthalmologists from Uptown Eye Specialists. They join the front-line team as consultants — reviewing complex cases, offering second opinions, and stepping in with medical or surgical management when a case moves beyond optometric scope. The patient’s relationship with their DCC and OD continues unchanged.

Research-led care
The science behind our dry eye care
The U Dry Eye Institute is led by ocular-surface specialists Dr. Vincent Lam and Dr. Raj Maini. Our approach to dry eye is grounded in published clinical research — including our own studies on intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy and regenerative platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment for the most common forms of dry eye.
Safety and Efficacy of BroadBand Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for Dry Eye Disease with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
A prospective study showing that broadband intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy safely improves dry eye symptoms and meibomian gland function — the evidence behind our UltraView DEL light-based treatment.
Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma Drops for Evaporative Dry Eye Disease from Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
A study showing that four weeks of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) eye drops produced significant improvements in dry eye symptoms and tear-film quality — supporting our hemoderivative (blood-derived) treatment options for severe dry eye.
